Campaign for OCB Ultimate rolling papers with a spacelike/alien theme. The tagline and website were "zeigzunge.de" — the campaign's central gag being a man jumping out from behind a wall sticking out his tongue, just as the viewer expects to see the astronaut.
Case Study
Goal:
Create a spacelike campaign for OCB Ultimate rolling papers with a surprise reveal: a man jumping from behind a wall instead of the expected astronaut. Tagline and website: zeigzunge.de.
Approach:
The Earth was built from scratch with custom Arnold shaders using NASA Blue Marble textures on precise UDIM UV tiles, with volumetric cloud layers and a custom atmospheric glow shader. Night city light passes were rendered where sunlight didn't reach. The ISS was a purchased asset, shaded by a colleague with my guidance. The astronaut was enhanced with 3D scan textures, rigged, animated and cloned for background depth. All scenes were real-world scale. The live-action greenscreen shot was keyed, planar-tracked in Nuke and composited with a city backdrop. Camera animation was reverse-engineered from the live plate into Maya so the transition from CG to live-action was seamless. Nuke effects made the CG render appear as a torn poster on the wall. Tools: Maya, Arnold, Nuke, Photoshop, Mari.
Result:
Campaign published for OCB Ultimate with the zeigzunge.de website and video content.
My Contribution:
Full CG pipeline: Earth creation with custom Arnold shaders, UDIM NASA texturing, volumetric clouds, atmospheric glow, night city passes, ISS asset supervision, astronaut rigging, animation, real-world scale scene setup, greenscreen keying, planar tracking, Nuke compositing, effects, grading. Live-action shoot coordination.
