Project for a new Becks campaign with animated assets for the website. The bottle was modeled from reference. Labels were provided and converted into textures (diffuse, bump/normal, reflection, roughness). Each bottle was rendered separately with the same camera. Water drops on the bottles were painted as textures/masks in Mari on a slightly scaled-down copy of the bottle and displaced for extreme droplet detail. Lighting used HDR combined with reflection and fill lights plus light blockers. The floor was modeled with a metallic shader and texture. Caustics were rendered in a separate render layer and added in post. Full compositing was built as a custom Nuke template with switches and loops for multiple feedback rounds with the art director. The background water was created with an Arnold ocean shader, animated and rendered with displacement and a custom foam mask for white spray. The sequence was cut in the middle and reversed in After Effects to create an infinite loop. Additionally, a water drop animation was requested by the agency's web developer to slide down the page on scroll — this drop was animated in Maya, rendered individually, tracked in Nuke and exported as a square element for the developer to integrate. Tools: Maya, VRay, Arnold, Nuke, After Effects, Photoshop. City background was created by a colleague for compositing into the Nuke scene.
Case Study
Goal:
Visually striking animated campaign assets for Becks, including a looping water scene and interactive scroll-triggered water drop for the website.
Approach:
The bottle was modeled, textured from supplied labels (diffuse, bump, reflection, roughness) and rendered per bottle with matched cameras. Water drops were painted as Mari displacement masks on a scaled-down bottle copy for extreme detail. Lighting combined HDR with reflection/fill lights and blockers. Caustics were rendered as a separate layer. The water background used an Arnold ocean shader with foam mask, animated and reversed in After Effects for an infinite loop. A separate water drop was animated in Maya, tracked and exported in Nuke as a square element for the web developer. Compositing was built as a custom Nuke template with flexible feedback loops. Tools: Maya, VRay, Arnold, Nuke, After Effects, Photoshop.
Result:
Campaign visuals and animated web assets published for Becks.
My Contribution:
Complete 3D scene: bottle modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, rendering, caustics, ocean shader setup. Mari water drop displacement textures. Nuke compositing template creation. Water drop animation for web. Post-production and feedback loop management. City background by a colleague.
