ADAPT-PIPELINE

work: Custom pipeline launcher tool, Python/Vue.js/Electron, environment & profile management, portable plugin/software deployment

position: CG Generalist

role: Freelancer

Custom pipeline launcher for studios — a central hub on each workstation or the network where all 3D/2D applications (Katana, Maya, Cinema 4D, Nuke, etc.), plugins (VRay, Arnold, Craft Director, etc.), scripts, and workspaces are stored, versioned in separate folders and configured per workstation and/or per user. The launcher displays all available components, lets the user activate/select what they need, then launches the chosen application while temporarily setting every required environment variable and configuration on the fly. This guarantees exactly the same configuration, plugin versions, and tool versions across every workstation and render farm without cluttering the system with manual installations. Additional features: custom environment variables, OCIO variables, savable profiles for different workflows. Built in Python with a Vue.js/Electron GUI and a companion console binary.

Case Study

Goal:

Eliminate software version conflicts and environment clutter across studio workstations and render farm with a portable, profile-driven pipeline launcher.

Approach:

Designed as a central launcher with a Vue.js/Electron GUI and Python backend. Applications, plugins, and scripts are stored versioned in separate directories. On launch, the tool temporarily sets all required environment variables (paths, OCIO, custom vars) per selected profile, then starts the chosen application. Profiles are savable per workstation and/or per user. The system evolved from early internal scripts at the agency into a full GUI and console binary over several years. Tools: Python, Vue.js, Electron.

Result:

Production-ready pipeline launcher deployed across studio workstations and render farm.

My Contribution:

Sole development from concept through all iterations: initial proof-of-concept scripts, full GUI architecture, Electron/Vue.js frontend, Python backend, environment and profile management system, cross-platform deployment.
